The England and Australia players finished their limited overs series in the United Kingdom, with England winning the T20I series 2-1 and Australia clinching the ODIs by the same margin. With the international summer done in the United Kingdom, all the England and Australia players have landed in the UAE for IPL 2020. There was initial confusion over what the status of the England and Australia players will be as the quarantine rules in the UAE were for 14 days.

However, the clarification came on Thursday. Since the entire series between England and Australia was played in the bio-bubble, moving from one bio-bubble to the other resulted in a relaxation of the quarantine rules. There is a catch even here. In Dubai, the players who land there will be in isolation for 36 hours and then undergo a COVID Test. If it is negative, they can join action immediately. In Abu Dhabi, though, the rules are different. The players who land there will have to be in quarantine for six days.

How this will impact the franchisees? There are six teams based in Dubai and two are in Abu Dhabi. Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore are all put up in Dubai while Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders are in Abu Dhabi. This is how the new rules will impact all the franchisees.

Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals will heave a huge sigh of relief that the quarantine period in Dubai has been reduced. This means that the likes of their skipper Steve Smith, Jos Buttler, Tom Curran and Jofra Archer are all available for selection for their first game which begins on September 22.

Kings XI Punjab

Glenn Maxwell was the Man of the Series in the recent clashes against England and his ODI century in the match in Manchester was sublime. Combined with his good record in the UAE, Maxwell will be the X-factor for Kings XI Punjab. With the relaxation of the rules in Dubai, Maxwell can be available for selection for their first game against Delhi Capitals on September 20.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

This news is a shot in the arm for Sunrisers Hyderabad. David Warner and Jonny Bairstow were the stars of the franchise in 2019, scoring aggressively and helping them enter the playoffs. Warner and Bairstow will be available for selection for the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore on September 21 in Sharjah.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Aaron Finch, Adam Zampa and Moeen Ali are all available for selection on September 21 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Finch will be vital at the top of the order while the conditions in the UAE might make either Moeen or Zampa a constant in their side.

Chennai Super Kings

They will be glad that Josh Hazlewood and Sam Curran will be available for selection although the depth in bowling and batting might not make that much difference.

Delhi Capitals

Alex Carey, who smashed a century along with Maxwell and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis are available for selection. Although Carey might find it hard to slot in the team, the availability is good news for the side.

Mumbai Indians

None of the players in the recent England vs Australia series are part of the Mumbai Indians side.

Kolkata Knight Riders

The team to lose out the most in these quarantine rules. In the squad, they have Pat Cummins, Tom Banton and Eoin Morgan and they will have to be in quarantine for the coming six days. Since they are based in Abu Dhabi, the mandatory period of quarantine even from one bio-bubble to the other is six days. Kolkata Knight Riders’ first game is on September 23 against Mumbai Indians. The availability of the trio will be touch and go.
