Your dream of going on a romantic boat ride followed by a candle-lit dinner at the floating restaurant in Sabarmati this summer has just sunk. Now, you can expect the dream to resurface somewhere around June.

For, the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL), which was to start the boating and floating restaurant in the Sabarmati River, has postponed the grand plans following the reluctance shown by the bidders.

In a bid to invite interests from private bidders, the SRFDCL has re-tendered the proposal for both the schemes. This means both the facilities will be launched sometime in June - after the summer vacation. If sources in the SRFDCL are to be believed, private bidders who had come forward for the first time found the norms to be too stringent.

"This time we have relaxed the norms so that more bidders can take part in it. If everything goes as per plan, the boating and floating restaurant will be launched by June," said a senior SRFDCL official.

Earlier, the officials wanted to start the boating facility by mid-April as they claimed they had got requests from citizens regarding the same after similar experiments during the Kite Festival celebration near the riverfront.

The official said, when launched, citizens can enjoy ride on a speed boat, gondola, sailing boat and others.

The floating restaurant is expected to have a capacity to seat around 100 people.

The boats would ferry the people between the bank and the floating restaurant.

The SRFDCL has also plans to start a cable car from the east to west bank of the river.

Moreover, the SRFDCL is also in the process to rope in experts to plan seven parks and gardens on the reclaimed land of the Sabarmati River.
