While coming to Ahmedabad in Gujarat Mail, a woman lost her purse containing cash and ornaments worth Rs9.76 lakh. The incident happened in the train which departed from Mumbai at 9:45 pm on Monday and arrived in Ahmedabad at 6:30 am on Tuesday.

Nidhi Rathe, travelling along with her family members, told the railway police that someone stole her purse between Surat and Nadiad stations. She was in B6 coach with her husband, in-laws and three-year-old son. After the train left Surat station at 2:30 am, she fell asleep and woke up at Nadiad station at 5 am.

As soon as she woke up, Rathe looked for her purse, in which she had put Rs7,000 cash, a diamond set, mobile phone, gold chain and a few other ornaments worth Rs9.76 lakh. Not finding it, she woke up her husband and in-laws who also looked for it. They soon realised that someone had stolen it while they were asleep.

Rathe lodged a complaint with Ahmedabad Government Railway Police. According to PP Pirozia, inspector of Ahmedabad GRP, since the incident had occurred before Nadiad station, the complaint has been transferred to Surat GRP for further investigation.
