"It was the 'witch doctor' Vinod Nayak who cheated and robbed me of Rs20 lakhs," were the last words of Rajesh Unakar, who along with his wife and two teenage children, committed suicide in Naroda. The Naroda police are on the lookout for Nayak.

Earlier, the police had picked up another 'witch doctor' with the same name, but later released him when he was not identified by the relatives of Unakar.

Unakar had alleged in his suicide note that he went into debt because of Nayak. The police are analysing the call details of Unakar to find the whereabouts of Nayak.

"Nayak's modus operandi and other details will emerge only after he is nabbed," police inspector GH Gohil told DNA.

Unakar's relatives, in their statements to the police, said that Unakar had sold his bungalow in Krishnanagar for Rs21 lakhs. He then purchased a house for Rs14 lakhs in Hathijan and paid off the debtors a few years ago, police sources said.

However, Unakar has mentioned nothing about how Nayak cheated him. Police sources also pointed out that Unakar was addicted to gambling and had lost lakhs of rupees in this fashion.

Did the witch doctor take advantage of Unakar's habit of gambling?

Police sources believe that Unakar used to consult Nayak about which numbers to bet on. Nayak must have taken advantage of this habit of Unakar, feel the sources. However, exact details will only be revealed once Nayak is nabbed.
