WB govt orders preparation of new ration cards

The West Bengal government has ordered preparation of new ration cards in the state for which notification has been made.

The new rations cards would be for – APL (Above Poverty Line), BPL (Below Poverty Line) and Antyodaya and Annapurna Yojana. The colours would be violet, grey and orange respectively, chief minister's secretariat sources said here today.

The new ration cards would be processed on the basis of revised lists prepared by panchayat and civic bodies.

The new cards would incorporate, name of the head of the family and EPIC card number. There will be no photograph of the card-holder.

Old ration cards have to be deposited within December 31 for receiving the new cards, the notification said.

Initially the new ration cards would be distributed in 170 blocks in the state, the sources said.
