Residents of Bhatpore village in Hazira area staged protest against ONGC, alleging that the company had been hiring people from other states, rather than providing jobs to local educated youth.

They demanded quota for the local population and threatened of stern actions if their demands were not met.

More than 50 villagers gathered in front of ONGC and raised slogans against the company’s management. According to the villagers, ONGC recruited 27 people for the Western Zone, but instead, appointed them at their plant in Hazira, which falls under the Mumbai Zone.

Interestingly, apart from Mumbai Zone, seven more zones come under the Western Zone, but all 27 were placed in Surat, alone.

“Despite applying for job in the company, the local educated youth is being ignored for a long time. This has resulted in a long wait list, but ONGC continues to prefer people from other states. This is mainly done to prevent an increase in the number of local people as company staff,” averred local leader, Naresh Patel.
