Criticising the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre over charges of corruption, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said the government has lost its moral authority of governing the nation.

“I think for the first time ever in the history of independent India, the Supreme Court of India has come so strongly on the government as on the current Congress led-UPA. If there was some other government, it would have realised it’s wrong doings and accept that it has lost it’s moral authority of governing the nation,” he told mediapersons aboard an aircraft.

The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Delhi police to furnish the footage of yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s camp at New Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan last month.

Criticising the Delhi police for the midnight crackdown on Ramdev and thousands of his supporters on June 4, the apex court also asked them to explain what provoked it to use teargas and baton-charge in the closed enclosure on people, who were sleeping.

Expressing grief on the twin railway accidents that took place on Sunday claiming 80 lives and injuring at least 350 others, Rajnath Singh said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, should own up responsibility for the mishap.

“It is a sad state of affairs that since May 2011, the Cabinet post for the railway minister had been vacant. The prime minister had kept the responsibility of the entire ministry under him. Now, when an unfortunate railway incident on such a high magnitude has occurred, he should claim responsibility,” said Singh.

“Neither did he nor any state railway minister visit the site to review status of the affected area and people. It would be advisable for the Prime Minister to own up the responsibility of the accident and go and personally visit the site of the accident,” he added.

Rajnath Singh also hit out at the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Government led by Mayawati in Uttar Pradesh, and alleged her involvement in the killing of two senior doctors, who died under mysterious circumstances.

“The killings of senior doctors in Uttar Pradesh, be it Dr Sachan (Dr YS Sachan, deputy chief medical officer of Lucknow) or his predecessor, Dr BP Singh are indirectly or directly part of the state government’s conspiracy. This is the signal that we are getting as onlookers of the entire episode,” said Singh.

“If in the judicial report there is a proven linkage between the state government and the killings of doctors, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati, should own up responsibility and resign as the state chief,” he added.

Rajnath Singh told mediapersons on his way to Malwa, where he reportedly met those injured in the Kalka Mail train accident.
