With a view to ensure sowing of Rabi crops, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati has asked the electricity department to provide regular power supply for at least ten hours per day in rural areas and directed the district authorities to monitor distribution of fertilizers and seeds among farmers.

Mayawati, while reviewing the works of power, cooperative, irrigation and agriculture departments at a meeting held at her residence yesterday, directed the electricity officials to make all arrangements to ensure 10-hour daily power supply to the farmers on regular basis, official sources said.

The chief minister also directed the district magistrates and officers of the cooperative and agriculture department to keep an eye on the distribution of fertilisers and seeds as per the requirement of the farmers.

She warned that stern action would be taken by fixing the responsibility of concerning officers, if complaints were found regarding electricity supply.

Officers were also asked to coordinate with the Centre to maintain availability of required fertilisers.

To check black marketing and hoarding of fertilisers in the state, Mayawati said effective steps will be taken to punish those involved in such activities.
