UP farmers to launch protest against sugarcane prices

The farmers have decided to sever all links with the state by resigning from their respective cane development societies, through which they are bound to supply sugarcane.

Protesting against the state advisory price (SAP) of sugarcane, Uttar Pradesh farmers will launch an agitation from Garh Mukteshwar in Jyotiba Phule Nagar from tomorrow.
    
On the occasion of Tigri Mela being organised in Garh Mukteshwar, farmers will take a vow that they will not accept a price of less than Rs280 per quintal for sugarcane crop, convenor of Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan V M Singh said.
    
The function will be attended by prominent farmer leaders including Mahendra Singh Tikait of Bhartiya Kisan Union and Baba Harikrishan Malik, he said.
    
"Government dictates the farmer and the administration pressurises them to give the cane to mills in accordance with the reservation order issued by the state," he said.
    
Singh said that now the farmers have decided to sever all links with the state by resigning from their respective cane development societies, through which they are bound to supply sugarcane to the mills under the direction of the government.
