UP ATS to seek CBI's help in probing fake passport case

The Anti-Terrorist Squad of Uttar Pradesh police, probing the nexus between intelligence officials and touts for issuing fake passports, will register a case and seek help from CBI for further investigation into the matter.

A decision to file a case was taken at a meeting here today to help in the investigation to identify the touts active in the passport office as also the staff of Local Intelligence Unit (LIU), ADG, law and order, AK Jain said.

For probing the role of passport office staff, the state would seek CBI's help and in the event of getting clinching  evidence it would proceed for seeking prosecution sanction against the offenders, Jain said.

ATS is also probing the alleged involvement of regional passport office staff in the issuance of fake passport to some applicants including ISI agent Amir Ali.

Random checking of passports would also be undertaken to detect the discrepancies and remove them, Jain said, adding that wherever necessary, action would be taken under section 420, 467 and 468 of the Passport Act.

The ADG said that with filing of the case, police will be able to seize records and probe the role of local passport officials.
