Referring to the national mood over strong Lokpal, Shiv Sena Executive president Uddhav Thackeray today lashed out at Congress saying the country is facing a "challenging" situation.

"There is no leader for the country. Are Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Salman Khurshid leaders? The country has come into a challenging situation (sic)," Uddhav said while addressing the activists of Republican Party of India (RPI ) at a meeting organised to discuss a strategy for the coming Brihanmumbai Municipal elections slated early next year.

Dismissing reports that Shiv Sena's alliance with RPI is only for securing votes, Uddhav said, "Shiv Sena's alliance with RPI is not only for election purpose. I will not do that. I will not leave Athawale even after elections are over".

Taking a dig at Maharashtra Government, the Sena executive president said the police are still clueless even after so many days after the serial bomb blasts rocked Mumbai on July 13.

Criticising recent visit of Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi to Mawal in Pune district where he met the kin of the farmers killed in police firing, Uddhav said, "We went there soon after the incident took place but Rahul was not there".

Meanwhile, RPI president Ramdas Athawale reiterated his party's resolve to cement ties with Shiv Sena on the occasion.

"Earlier you (Shiv Sena-BJP) won the elections on your own strength but this time we are with you and therefore you need not worry," Athawale said.

Berating the Congress and NCP, the RPI leader said "I am not slave to both the Congress and NCP. I will never compromise the ideologies of Dr Ambedkar".
