Two persons were injured in a clash between two groups of workers outside Birla Tyres Factory area near here today, police said.

Prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC have been clamped outside the factory area and additional forces deployed to maintain law and order", sub-divisional police officer (Balasore Sadar) Kailash Parida said.

The workers, having assembled outside the locked-out factory premises, suddenly indulged in clash following an altercation causing injury to two, the SDPO said.

The management of Birla Tyres, a division of the BK Birla flagship, Kesoram Industries Ltd had declared lock-out in the factory from July 16 citing labour unrest.

However, the ruling BJD and its affiliated workers' union in Birla Tyres, Biju Sramik Sangha termed the declaration of lock-out as 'illegal' and demanded lifting of the lock-out immediately.

The ruling party and its union called for a discussion to be attended by the company management, state labour commisioner, Balasore administration and representatives of all trade unions to restore normalcy.
