The fifth deputy municipal commissioner Captain Dilip Mahajan too put in his papers on Tuesday.
In developments that will temporarily impact day-to-day operations of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), four deputy municipal commissioners of the civic body have been transferred by the state government.
And on Tuesday, another DyMC Capt Dilip Mahajan put in his papers. Decision of acceptance of his resignation will be taken during the staff selection committee meeting scheduled in a couple of days. When contacted, Mahajan neither confirmed nor denied the development.
The transfers are in line with Election Commission of India’s (ECI) instructions with regards to postings ahead of upcoming state assembly elections.
In fact, it was a double-blow for AMC on Tuesday with DyMC IK Patel receiving his transfer letter to now serve as personal secretary to MoS for Home, and Mahajan resigning from his post. ECI has also transferred SK Langa and MD Modhia, who served in the civic body as DyMCs of city’s north and new west zones.
Meanwhile, AMC and the state government are believed to have requested ECI to not transfer IK Patel, but municipal commissioner Guruprasad Mohapatra negates any such rumours.
“The election commission doesn’t make exceptions in transfers of state government officials who have been serving at the post for more than three years,” said Mohapatra on Tuesday.
IK Patel, MS Patel (who was transferred few days back) and Mahajan were the essential cogs in AMC’s wheel due to portfolio held by the trio.
State government has appointed three officers in their positions but it will take them at least couple of months to understand the works. Of the three, M Thennarasan and DP Desai have already taken charge but CR Kharsan is yet to do so.
