Three persons perished in incessant rains that poured over various parts of Uttarakhand for the third straight day today.

The heavy rains also triggered landslides at several places, blocking vehicular traffic to Badrinath and Yamunotri shrines in Garhwal region and also at Tanakpur-Pithoragarh Highway in Kumaon region.

Two teenaged girls were washed away in flash floods at Mansari Chothan village of Pauri district while they were returning home from school yesterday.

Another person was killed after being buried under landslides at Bhimtal area of Naintal district. He was riding a motorcycle when the incident took place last evening, official sources said.

Earlier on Sunday, three persons went missing when a gush of water flooded a causeway near Rajaji Park in Haridwar. "All the three are still untracable," a police official said.

The downpour has resulted in water-level of major rivers like Ganga and Yamuna rising menacingly.
