Three bogies of a goods train derailed at Sahibabad railway station here today, disrupting rail traffic on the Delhi-Kolkata and Delhi-Lucknow routes.
The traffic of passengers trains could only be restored on a single line, affecting the rail movement, GRP inspector Surjan Singh said.
Yesterday, a major accident was averted when the Lucknow-Delhi Express entered the station on the main line instead of using the designated platform number three.
The railways have ordered an inquiry into the incident as it was a "serious lapse".
Divisional railway manager RP Panday said a major accident was averted only because there was no train on the main line.
Noting that it was a "serious lapse", Panday said the defaulter would be punished.
