The Ahmedabad city crime branch has detained one person in connection with bomb threat which turned out to be a hoax. The accused Deepak Patel, a resident of Kukarwada in Vijapur, is alleged to have sent a parcel to the sessions court at Bhadra which read that the packet has a bomb which will blow up the court.

A source said that Patel was convicted for an offence after which he appealed to the sessions court, but the result was unsatisfactory. On Monday afternoon at around 12:30 pm, the city sessions court officials received a packet which said that the packet has a bomb inside; it is alleged to have been sent by Patel.

According to a source, the officials were about to open the packet but when they read the statement on it which said, ‘Isko Jo Chooega Woh Marega’ (Whosoever touches this will die) they panicked. The Karanj police officials were immediately informed about the threat.

Officials from the bomb disposal squad also reached the spot, but found nothing inside the packet.

According to the Karanj police officials, when they reached the court premises, they only found a packet of sweets and a crumbled piece of paper along with it. An official said, “The hoaxer probably wanted to delay the proceedings of the court.”

Special public prosecutor Sudhir Brahmbhatt told DNA that security would be stepped up in the court.

This is the third time that the sessions court authorities have received a threat like this. Earlier, a bomb disposal squad was rushed to the city civil and sessions court after principal sessions judge GB Shah informed the Karanj police that he had received a letter that threatened to blow up the court on August 12 and 13. However, no bomb was found on the premises.

On August 19, court authorities again received a letter signed by the ‘LeT’ which said that the court would be blown up to destroy evidence in the blast case, the trial for which is pending.
