Tech-savvy cops to keep eye on Yatra

After the successful use of high-end technology by the state election commission in monitoring the Lok Sabha election in Gujarat, the Ahmedabad city police department has now adopted this method to monitor the Rathyatra.

Policemen in the city have been trained to operate mobile phones in a manner to take pictures, which will be downloaded in  real time at a central server placed in the city police commissionerate. They will track the Rathyatra closely and any untoward incident will be followed up immediately.

The specially designed mobile phones have been developed in consonance with a commercial telecom service provider.Director general of police, SS Khandwawala said that this was the first time the Gujarat police were using mobile technology to monitor the Rathyatra. “A number of latest gadgets are being issued to police officials through which they can send the pictures or even videos of any suspicious activity to the in-charge officers in a few seconds,” he said.
