Team Anna ready to shift protest venue

Lokpal Bill crusader Anna Hazare on Sunday said he was ready to consider Delhi Police’s suggestion to opt for a site other than Jantar Mantar for his indefinite fast from August 16 on the condition that all facilities were provided for those who wanted to join his protest.

“If you don’t let us protest at Jantar Mantar, then tell us another suitable place? If there is some good place where there are facilities for all the people who join the protest, then we have no problems.

“The issue is that corruption needs to be rooted out. We are not worried about the venue,” Hazare said.

Kiran Bedi, a Team Anna member who was in Pune on Sunday said, “Anna would be going ahead with his proposed fast unto death starting from August 16 within the limits of the national capital of Delhi.”

Speaking to DNA, Bedi said the venue would be decided only after consultation with the team on Monday.

“The Delhi Police is fully capable of handling peaceful protests like ours. This denial of permission smack of political interference,” she said.
