Aslali police on Saturday arrested a tantrik from Vadali village of Kheda district for allegedly duping a man of Lambha Gam of Rs2.87 lakh. The accused had promised the victim that he would double his money with his 'power' but later made away with the cash and jewellery.

Deva Nair, a resident of Lambha Gam, stated in his complaint that tantrik Kanu of Vadali village, Kapadvannj taluka had recently cured him of a disease by giving some charm and won his confidence. "During that meeting, he told me that he will make me a wealthy person by doubling the money I possessed by his black magic," Deva said.

As agreed, Kanu visited Deva's home on 10th of this month. "As he asked us to do, we gave him Rs2.70 lakh in cash, all that we had, and gold chain worth Rs17,000. Then, he locked himself in a room while asking us to go out for a while," the complaint states.

When the family returned, the tantrik told them he had put the money in a casket in the house and asked them not to open it till further directions from him. However, Deva opened it on Friday and found that the thug had pushed two quilts inside and made away with the cash and the chain.

Following this, Deva lodged a complaint against Kanu and his three friends-Manu Thakor Ramesh Thakor and Rajesh Thakor- at Aslali police. Acting on the cheating complaint, cops arrested Kanu on Saturday.
