A Taiwanese women was sexually assaulted allegedly by an auto rickshaw driver at a secluded spot in Vastrapur locality of the city late last night, the police said today.

"A case of rape has been registered against the auto rickshaw driver this morning, in Vastrapur police station of the city," Zone I DCP Brijeshkumar Jha told PTI.

The 22-year-old woman hailing from Taiwan works in a private firm here.

Last night, she had dinner with her local friend and later the duo boarded an auto rickshaw from the Vastrapur area, police officers said.

After dropping her friend at home, the auto rickshaw driver took the foreign national to a secluded spot under the garb of taking her to Shahibaug locality here, they said.

The driver sexually assaulted her and also snatched her mobile phone before fleeing away from the spot, police officer said.

"A case of sexual assault on a foreign national has taken place in the city. She was assaulted by the auto rickshaw driver last night. We have got specific clues and hope to solve the case soon," Joint Commissioner of Police Sector I, Satish Sharma told reporters.

A complaint in this connection was registered with the police by her Indian friend this morning.
