Dubbing Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's Sadbhavna mission fasts a BJP affair and not a state programme, Mahagujarat Janta Party (MJP) leader Gordhan Zadaphiya has written a letter to governor Dr Kamla seeking her intervention to "stop wastage of public funds".

In his letter Zadafia has also said that the expenditure for the one-day fast to be observed by Modi in all districts will be borne by the state exchequer.

"Modi's one-day fast will cost a minimum of Rs5 crore in each of the 26 districts in the state which comes to a total of around Rs 130 crore," Zadafia told reporters in Vadodara, where he was addressing a convention of the MJP workers from Central Gujarat.
He had last month submitted a memorandum to the governor after the chief minister observed a three-day "Sadbhavna" fast in Ahmedabad.

The MJP chief had sought to know from the governor if the 'sadbhavna' fast was a state government programme or the ruling BJP has imposed a financial burden of Rs 200 crore on the state exchequer. Urging the governor to "put a stop to the upcoming one-day fast" to be undertaken by Modi in various districts, Zadafia contended that the sadbhavna mission was aimed at securing political gains as no member of the Opposition party has been invited.
