Srikrishna panel holds talks with parties, BJP stays away

The BJP has threatened to boycott the proceedings of the Srikrishna committee on the ground that it lacks legal backing.

After informal talks on Telangana statehood with political parties, justice BN Srikrishna, heading the Centre-appointed committee on the issue, today said it was not for him to judge whether the panel's report would satisfy all concerned.
     
Asked if he is confident that the committee would satisfy the emotions of all concerned, he told reporters here that said the committee's job is to submit its report to the government.
     
"Whether that satisfies everybody emotionally, intellectually or otherwise, it is not for me judge. It is for you to judge at the end of the day," he said.
      
The BJP has threatened to boycott the proceedings of the Srikrishna committee on the ground that it lacks legal backing and the party stayed away from the hosted by Andhr Pradesh governor ESL Narasimhan here last night for the committee and leaders of other political leaders.
     
However, TRS, spearheading the Telangana statehood agitation, was initially thinking of staying away from the committee but party chief K Chandrasekhara Rao finally made it to the dinner.
     
Asked where was the committee headed to in the light of the statement made by Union home minister P Chidambaram that the process of formation of Telangana will be initiated, Srikrishna said the process meant looking at all broad-based issues.
     
"Unfortunately, some one picked up as if he has said that Telangana will start tomorrow, it is not possible," he said.
