The soaring land prices in and around Ahmedabad has led to a stupendous rise in incidents of land being grabbed using forged documents. In yet another case, a Rajkot woman has lodged an FIR against her four brothers and their sons for fraudulently grabbing her 40 acre land.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed to look into such land disputes, has registered a case with Bavla police station in Ahmedabad rural area. According to the FIR, Praveena Vaghela said that her brothers and their sons illegally grabbed her land while she was visiting her husband in Madhya Pradesh (MP). Praveen said that the 40 acre land in Bavla was given to her by her father Mohabbatsinh Vaghela.

She has named seven people in the case -Prithvisinh Vaghela, Prahlad Vaghela, Jagdishsinh Vaghela, Vijaysinh Vagela, Anirudhsinh Vaghela, Temuk Vaghela and Kiritsinh Vaghela.
Yashwant, Praveena's son said the incident happened when his mother was away in MP with his father, a banker. "My maternal uncles forged documents (duplicate banakhat and power of attorney) and they showed it as if we had sold the 40 acre land to them for Rs2 lakh. A notary and advocate in Ahmedabad helped them in their scheme."

As soon as Praveena came to know of what her brothers had done, she immediately approached the police.

After initial investigation the case was given to the SIT which then asked the Bavla police to register the complaint. During the investigation the police also found that the accused have also grabbed over 40 acre of land belonging to their other sister Dhirajba.

"We are yet to lodge Dhirajba's complaint as the investigation is going on. But this case has definitely came as a shock in view of the dozens of other land disputes that we have witnessed in the last four months," said a member of SIT. It's to be noted that the SIT, to look into land disputes, was formed in December 2010 and within four months it has seen a number of strange property dispute cases.

In one case an 80-year-old, sold his land twice and challenged the cops to arrest him. In another case the son of a former Congress MLA duped a Junagadh-based farmer by selling him the land which was already sold.

But the weirdest case was that of a family where five of its members, attempted suicide before their relatives, who had kept them in the dark and sold their land.
