Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh on Friday said that he would be filing a “criminal defamation” case against Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati and additional director general of police in the state, Brij Lal, for filing cases of fraud against him.

“Mayawati and Brij Lal have filed false cases against me on fraud. I am only a shareholder in the companies mentioned in the FIR filed in Lucknow and as per company law I am not liable for any act of the company. Moreover, the mergers mentioned in the FIR, in which the alleged fraud has occurred was approved by a high court judge and therefore all is above board,” he said. He dared the UP chief minister to “hire a shooter and fire a bullet at him,” instead of such  intimidation.

“She has lit the tail of Hanuman and now I shall destroy her Lanka,” he said. Singh alleged that the FIR was just another one in a series of acts by Mayawati to play out her political antagonism against him and Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav.

“She had earlier filed 170 cases against Mulayam Singh Yadav and also some against Amitabh Bachchan. These were quashed by the high court and the Supreme Court. Therefore her motivation is clear,” he said at a press conference.
