With the marriage season round the corner, many brides and grooms in the city are in a fix. Although they have arranged the venue for the marriage ceremony, they are not sure whether the grand celebration will take place on the same date or they will have to look for another venue at the eleventh hour. As per rough estimates, there are nearly 5,000 marriages that are scheduled to take place during the coming wedding season starting from Navratri.

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC) action of sealing 171 wedding party plots across the city has turned into wedding poopers for the families of brides and grooms. The civic body swung into action following the Gujarat High Court's order with regards to illegal construction and encroachment.

Generally, out of the auspicious date options, the marriage dates are fixed as per the availability of the party plots or marriage halls. "I have booked Chanchal party plot for my daughter's wedding, scheduled on December 14. However, now I am looking for plan 'B', thanks to the plot being sealed by AMC," Kalpesh Bhagat said.

Bhagat has paid a deposit of approximately Rs50,000 to book the plot for the wedding. He further said that, "I waited for a month to hear some positive news pertaining to the plot. But with just three months away from the wedding and printing of the venue on the wedding card, I got tense and started looking for other options. I wish AMC comes out with a solution as soon as possible."
Bhagat is now hunting for another plot that has the near about capacity as Chanchal of around 1000 people.

Some of the people booked the plot a year back with a view of getting their preferred location. Prashant Shah booked a plot for his daughter's wedding, scheduled for November 22 around a year ago. Shah is hunting for another option like a private place or a distant farm house, but he still hopes for the plot to re-open as there is lot of money involved.

For Parag Vora and his daughter's in-laws, musician, Sharad Khandekar, Bandhan party plot has been sealed. Vora said, "I booked Bandhan for about Rs21,000 and now I am hunting for another place for the wedding."

The party plot owners association has already filed a case in this regard in the Gujarat high court. The hearing is scheduled on September 9, 2010. As the matter is sub-judice, the party plot owners decline to comment on the issue.
