The case of the alleged abduction and rape of a minor Jain sadhvi is stuck between the Rajasthan and Gujarat police who have been making contradictory claims for the last three days.

Soon after the FIR in the case was lodged with Pavagadh police station on Sunday, it was decided to transfer the case to the Rajasthan police as the offence had taken place in that state.
For the last three days, Gujarat police have been claiming that they had already forwarded the case to the neighbouring state.

On Wednesday, however, Rajasthan police said they had received no official intimation about the case. They said whatever they had come to know about the incident was through media reports originating in Gujarat.

Panchmahals DSP, JR Muthalia, had claimed on Tuesday that the case had been forwarded to Falna  police station (in Rajasthan) for investigation as the crime had taken place there. But the Falna police deny receiving any official intimation about the case.

"We haven't received any official intimation yet. We came to know of the case through media reports originating in Gujarat. There hasn't been any communication from the Gujarat police," said Pali DSP Ajay Lamba. Falna is a town in Pali district of Rajasthan.

The Panchmahals DSP could not be contacted for his comments. Sources in the police said that transfer of a criminal case to another police's jurisdiction is not a big thing.

In fact, the police station in-charge can himself directly transfer the case, a police official said. If any further intervention is required, the concerned DSP has all the powers to do what is needed. Some police officials said delay in post may be the reason for the case papers not reaching the Rajasthan police.

It may be recalled that on Sunday Raman Baria, a resident of Ochhi Falia in Shivrajpur village in Pavagadh, had lodged an FIR stating that his daughter, aged 15, was kidnapped and raped during her deeksha to become a Jain nun.

Baria accused another Jain nun, Nirmla Prabha and her driver Pappu along with Mahendra, Ashok and Mukesh, of involvement in the incident. The FIR states that the girl was raped in Falna.
