A double blessing for the tribal-dominated Dangs: First it was blessed by Lord Rama, the Ayodhya king, who is said to have trudged through the forests during his days in exile and then it gets the state government’s blessings now to develop the trail left behind by the king.

The district received Rs9 crore for the development of its places known as Rama trail, in a bid to convert those places said to have been visited by Lord Rama in the epic Ramayana.

According to officials the money will be spent on the Rama trail, which will give Hindu devotees a peak into a journey that Lord Rama along with Sita and Lakshman undertook in Ramayana as part of their 14-year exile.

Places like Sita Van, Ram Sarovar in Unai, where Sita had taken a bath after Lord Rama pulled out water from the ground with his arrow will be developed. Some other places of interest include the hot water spring, Shabari Dham in Subir (where Rama enjoyed fruits served by Shabari) still flows, Anjani Kund and Anjani Parvat (mountain) where lord Hanuman was born.

Officials said that the locals say that when Hanuman was passing over the region carrying a mountain load with Sanjeevani booti (life saving herbs) from the Himalaya ranges for Lakshmana who was injured during the war with king of demon king Ravana,  a piece of the mountain fell at Anajani Parbat, which leads to the belief that this led to the region's abundance in medicinal herbs.

"The state government had announced the plan couple of years back. Recently, we received the amount and hopefully, very soon the work will start. Our plan is develop the sites of historic importance such as renovation, beautification and construction of newer temples as wells various other facilities for pilgrims," said an official of the collector's office in Dangs.

"Conceptually the plan and budget (Rs9 crore) have been sanctioned. In this project there are three surrounding districts including Dangs.  The idea is to develop these places as religious temples and social activities and of course for tourism purposes," said Praveen Solanki, district collector, Dangs.

Solanki further said that the money will be spent on connectivity, water supply and tourism destination.
