Robbers it seems no more need the cover of darkness to execute their near perfect crimes. Take the case of yet another day-light robbery incident in the city, in which a man was robbed of Rs8.45 lakh near the busy CG Road.
The crime was executed by two men on a Bajaj Pulsar Bike at around 10:30 am on Monday. The local police as well as the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) are as of now clueless about the robbers.
Rakesh Thakkar (31), a resident of Amarsingh Bungalows in Sabarmati was on his way to deposit Rs8.45 lakh in the Yes Bank on CG Road in Navrangpura, when the incident happened. "Two people on a bike came from the Girish Cold Drinks crossroads and snatched my bag with cash in it. Before I could react, they had made good their escape towards Panchvati," Thakkar told DNA.
He said that he had parked the car outside the bank and had started walking towards it with the laptop bag containing cash, bank slip and a cheque book when he was robbed. Sources said the police are probing all possibilities. "They are also not ruling out the possibility that it could have been a planned robbery stage-managed by the complainant himself," said the source.
"We are keeping an open mind and plan to probe all angles, including the authenticity of the complaint," joint commissioner of police, sector 1, Satish Sharma told DNA.
The police have allegedly found some discrepancy in the profile description of the robbers given by Thakkar. "They also plan to probe the financial condition of Thakkar," said a source. Thakkar is a polymer trader and owns a factory in Rakhial. He originally belongs to Jalor in Rajasthan and had shifted to the city some four years ago.
