Five looters struck at the Indian Overseas Bank on Udhna-Magdalla road on Monday afternoon and escaped with Rs30 lakh in cash. Police have formed a team in an effort to catch the robbers.

The robbery occurred at 2:30 pm on Monday, when five looters stormed into the bank branch. Carrying weapons, the five men threatened the bank staff and the frightened employees did as they were told.

One of the looters went to the cash counter and, with a revolver in hand, he demanded all the cash. The bank employee placed all the money, amounting to Rs30 lakh, in the bag. Taking the cash, the robbers locked everybody into the locker room, located at the far end of the branch. The robbers then fled from the spot.

The bank employees managed to come out from the locker room and informed the police who rushed to the spot and sealed off the entire area. With the help of a dog squad and FSL officials, cops tried to collect evidence about the looters.

During investigation, it was found that the criminals were aged between 25 and 30 years and spoke in both Hindi and Gujarati. The entire crime took 15 minutes to execute. Cops suspect the involvement of a professional gang in the crime.

"Looking at the modus operandi, we believe that a professional gang has done the crime. They spoke very little and that too only what was required. Bank employees don't have any information about the vehicle they arrived in and where they headed for after committing the crime," a top police official said, requesting anonymity.

Sources said that various teams have been formed by the police to probe into the felony. However, till late in the evening, cops were clueless about the criminals.
