A hotel management student was nabbed by the Vastrapur police for harassing a 19-year-old girl on phone. Abhay Tiwari, hailing from Jharkhand and doing his internship at a luxury hotel in the city, had stolen her mobile phone from a stationary shop in Thaltej area of the city.

A few days after losing her mobile, the girl started getting calls from the thief who has apparently taken her photos and email ids from her SIM card and the stolen phone.

“After getting her contact details he started making obscene calls and later started sending her obscene emails,” a police source said. The harassed girl eventually told her father. Subsequently, a complaint was filed at Vastrapur police station. After complaint was filed, the police decided to trap the youth. When he next called the girl, she invited him to meet her at Sattadhar crossroads. "We nabbed him red-handed with the stolen phone and are now interrogating him," the police source said.

Police said Tiwari stole the mobile phone. He extracted the girl’s details. and used this information to harass her. Cops are getting more details against him. The girl is a SYBCom student of a city college. It was later found that Tiwari harassed other girls too with obscene calls. “We are investigating such cases and want more complainants to come forward,” the police source said.

Fake cops exposed by victims
In an ironical turn of events, when a woman cheated by fake cops was on her way to file a police complaint, she identified them trying to dupe another lady.

On trying to chase them, they escaped leaving their bike behind, which was seized by the cops. After cheating Pina Shah, a resident of Takshashila tower in Vastrapur, the imposters were trying to cheat another citizen.

According to the police complaint filed by Shah at Vastrapur police station, on January 25, 2012, she was first approached by the cop and asked to take out her jewellery and wrap it in a paper - it was for the police bandobast, as a precautionary part for the Republic day, they told her.

"She was told to go to a third person, who changed the paper. Shah was told to go home immediately after it," the police source said. Later, the lady was shocked to see that the paper contained just stones. She returned to the same spot to confront the 'cops', but they were nowhere to be found.

"She took a rickshaw to file the police complaint after some time and eventually saw the same two people near Mansi Circle. When they saw her, they fled from there, leaving their bike at the spot," the police source said.

"We are trying to take out the details of the accused, based on the Yamaha motorbike seized by us," said the police source.
