Money often eases the way in times of trouble.  But four robbers, to their utter dismay, found that bundles of Rs50 thrown at a group of vigilant citizens chasing them were not enough to stop the mob in their tracks.

This unique trick was used by four robbers who tried to steal Rs4 lakh from the clerk and peon of RH Kapadia New High School in Satellite.

The incident happened when peon Prakash Chauhan and clerk Jitendra Waghela were on their way after withdrawing Rs4 lakh from the Bank of India. The duo was taking the money to the school on a bike when they were surrounded by four people at Chotta charrasta near Narmada Vasahat. The four carried weapons and one of them stopped the duo. They picked up a fight saying one of them had harassed their sister.

They then robbed the employees and started running towards SG highway. But soon vigilant citizens gave them a chase. Then the robbers started throwing bundles of Rs50 on the road to distract the chasing mob.

Meanwhile, two police constables of the Satellite police station Mayur Gadhvi and Govindbhai who were witness to the incident also started chasing the accused.  Soon one of the accused Suresh alias Surio climbed on a tree, while the other Ganesh alias Ganiya kept on running.

Finally Suresh and Ganesh were nabbed by the angry mob. Two others managed to escape. The duo then revealed that the peon Prakash had planned the robbery. He too was arrested. The police recovered the money from them. A complaint was filed by Jitendra Waghela who lives in Rameshwar tenement in Satellite.

Following interrogation by Satellite police, it was found that Prakash had planned the robbery .  Two other accused who managed to flee were identified as Girish and Munno who are friends of Ganesh.
