Death toll in Uttar Pradesh bus-matador collision rises to 36

The death toll in the bus-matador collision today reached 36 with two more persons succumbing to their injuries.

Two of the five persons who were seriously injured and referred to Bareilly for treatment died in the wee hours this morning, district magistrate Amit Gupta said.

Thirty-four people were killed and 30 others injured when the matador carrying them collided with the state government bus here last evening.

Gupta said the collision took place near Annipur village on Badaun-Agra road.

Those killed included bus driver Brahm Swaroop, SP DK Chaudhary said, adding that the victims were returning after performing the last rites of their relative.

Police said that 28 persons are still undergoing treatment.

The district administration had announced an ex-gratia of Rs2 lakh each to kin of those killed in the accident and a financial assistance of Rs50,000 to the injured.
