Rains in last few days give Gujarat 75% of season’s average

The state has received 75% of the average rainfall of the past 10 years so far, and with a few more weeks of the rainy season remaining, this has raised hopes of a normal monsoon.

After a delayed and erratic start to the monsoon season, the rain gods have finally showered their blessings on the state.

The state has received 75% of the average rainfall of the past 10 years so far, and with a few more weeks of the rainy season remaining, this has raised hopes of a normal monsoon.

According to Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA), most parts of the state have received widespread rains in the past three to four weeks. As against average rainfall of 914 mm between 2001 and 2010, the state has recorded average of 685 mm as of August 30.Kutch region, which had received little rainfall till July-end, has received 86% of the last 10 years' average rains so far. As against average of 458 mm, Kutch has received 394 mm rain.Saurashtra region has received 80% of the average rainfall, while north Gujarat has received 79% rain so far.

South Gujarat, which is known for heavy rains, has received 74% of the rain. Central Gujarat region has recorded 71% of the average rain.Among the districts, Rajkot has received 94% of the average rain, while Patan has received 91%. Sabarkantha and Surendranagar have received 89% of the average rainfall. Valsad and Panchmahals have received 82% of average rain so far.

Kheda district has received only 55% of the average rainfall of past 10 years, while Jamnagar has recorded 62%. Dangs district in South Gujarat, which has recorded the highest average rainfall (2001-2010), has received only 63% of the rainfall so far and so is the case with Bharuch.
