Preliminary work for Karaikal SEZ to begin soon: Minister

The Puducherry government had taken steps to commence preliminary work on setting up the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Karaikal soon, according to Puducherry PWD minister MOHF Shahjahan.

Speaking after hoisting the national flag on Independence day, he said the SEZ is proposed to be set up in the vicinity of Karaikal port.

Earlier, he inspected a guard of honour by police, Home Guard, NCC and NSS cadets.

The minister also distribiuted prizes to district level toppers in SSLC and HSC exams. He also honoured freedom fighters and distributed welfare assistance.

On the ongoing Karaikal-Nagore broadgauge work, Shahjahan said the 11km line would be completed by early 2011.

To cater to the increasing power demands of Karaikal,a new 230/110 KV, fully automatic power sub-station would be set up in the town, he said.

He said work on the Tirunallar temple city project, aimed at large scale infrastructure development in the town, had commenced.
