Yesterday, the peak demand in the city was recorded at 3,860 MW.

Although several areas faced power cuts, the duration of of load-shedding was not longer comparing to last few days as "only one under frequency relays" was reported in the Northern Grid comparing to 42 yesterday.

"In most of the areas, the power cuts ranged from 30 minutes to at most one hour," said the official.

He said the afternoon rainfall had brought down the temperature resulting in drop in power demand later in the day.

The city faced power cuts ranging from one to three hours in the last few days, mainly because of under frequency relays caused by overdrawal of power by neighbouring states from the Northern Grid.

Chief minister Sheila Dikshit today sent a letter to union power minister Sushilkumar Shinde requesting him to direct the neighbouring states not to overdraw power from the Northern Grid as it leads to power crisis in Delhi.

Meanwhile, the power department official said the shutdown of 220 KV transmission line from Maharani Bagh 400 KV sub-station to Lodhi Road sub-station will continue till April 28.

As per earlier plan, the line, which was closed on April 9, was to be restored on April 19.

Delhi witnessed massive power shortage during peak summer months last year prompting the government to issue strong warning to all the discoms to procure "power at any cost".

The power demand had gone beyond 4,400 MW on several occasions in July and August last year.
