Policemen, students injured in violence at JNU

A group of students turned violent after police arrested the youths for allegedly threatening the security staff in the campus who spotted them drinking liquor inside a car.

A few students and police personnel were injured due to violence in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus tonight over the issue of arrest of three youths, who are supposed to be friends of some of the students.

A group of students turned violent after police arrested the youths for allegedly threatening the security staff in the campus who spotted them drinking liquor inside a car.

The students started pelting stones at the security personnel, prompting police to use mild force. Police also lobbed teargas shells to disperse the crowd. DCP HG Dhaliwal was present at the spot.

A few students and police personnel were injured in the incident, police said. The trio had entered the campus as guest of a student. But they started consuming liquor in the car, a security official said. They also allegedly threatened the security staff who called in police, who lodged an FIR in the case.
