Your connectivity to CG Road from Paldi is all set to get smoother. After much delay, the Parimal underpass will be opened for public use by Diwali, if everything goes as per the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC)'s plan.
On Friday, the AMC and the Western Railway together completed the work on the Parimal underpass in seven days, owing to strategic planning and their decision to remove train tracks.
Municipal commissioner IP Gautam believes this could be achieved as the AMC and the Bhavnagar division of the Western Railway worked hand-in-hand. If the train hadn't been stopped from passing through the area, the work would have taken at least six months to be completed.
"We removed railway tracks from the area where the work was going on, as the trains were not supposed to pass by that stretch. "This was done with two reasons in mind - safety of the workers, and to escalate the pace of work," said Gautam.
According to him, AMC officials had started removing railway tracks from June 3, and completed the work on June 11. "From Saturday, after we fixed the railway tracks back, the train connectivity was resumed," said Gautam. During this time, special AMTS buses were arranged to take passengers from Gandhigram railway station to Sarkhej.
The work on the underpass may have been completed but it will still take three working months to improve road conditions. The AMC needs to complete around 17 metres of road on one side, and 20 metres on the other.
"It will take three months to complete the work. But as the monsoon is closing in, will not be possible for the civic body to start the work. So, if it commences by September, after the monsoon is over, the Parimal underpass will be opened by Diwali," said an official.
Currently, commuters going from Paldi to CG road have to take a longer route via Paldi cross roads.
