Parents, relatives cut girl's nose after a love marriage in Chhattisgarh

In a barbaric incident, the parents and relatives of a 19-year-old girl cut off her nose for bringing `shame' to the family by eloping with her lover and marrying him, at Rahmankampa village in Kabirdham district of Chhattisgarh.

The victim, Nanki Bai, eloped with her boyfriend Narendra, 19, (who hails from the same village) on April 15 and got married.

The couple returned three days ago.

Yesterday, the girl's parents, Sakhiram and Hansya Bai, called her home, and cut off her nose, police said.

Police have arrested the parents and five others --Naresh, Juthel, Malan Bai, Dhansingh and Dhanaiyya -- for the assault.

Parents allegedly told the police that they cut her nose because she had brought dishonour upon the family by eloping and marrying her lover.
