Targeting Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on the 2G issue, BJP on Friday demanded that he should either resign or be sacked and his alleged role in the scam be investigated by the CBI.

Coming down heavily on Chidambaram, senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi said, "The government must remember that he was the Finance Minister when spectrum was allocated in a non-transparent manner, which had deprived the exchequer of a staggering sum and that too at a time when the country was badly in need of greater revenue generation."

"All this could not have been possible without Chidambaram's tacit approval," he said, adding that while many high-profile politicians are now in jail, "we are of the view that many more heads would roll if the matter is probed thoroughly".

Questioning Chidambaram's performance as Home Minister, the BJP leader said, "The Congress-led UPA government would do well to get rid of Chidambaram who has been a disaster as the country's Home Minister as well. He messed up the Telangana affair."

"He put the country in an embarrassing position before the world by providing a botched up most wanted list to Pakistan. He should either resign, or be dismissed and his role in the irregularities in 2G scam and the recently-unearthed oil scam in Krishna Godavari basin be investigated by the CBI", the former Union Minister said.

The former BJP president also claimed the Centre was trying to "scuttle" tabling of the CAG report on the "oil scam" in Parliament and demanded it should be put before the House "as soon as the Monsoon Session commences, so that the truth comes out in the open".
