Worried over ever increasing trafficking of women and children from the state, Orissa government today framed a comprehensive policy for prevention of the menace.
       
The draft policy in this regard prepared by the Women and Child Development (WCD) deparment, was today approved by the state cabent meeting presided over by chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
      
The new policy suggested setting up of Integrated Anti-Human Trafficking Units (AHTUs) at five different places like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Berhampur and Sambalpur.        

While commissioner of police would ensure the setting up of AHTUs in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the range inspector general (IG) of police offices at three other locations would have such units, said chief secretary TK Mishra while briefing media persons after the cabinet meeting.

Each unit would be headed by a DSP (deputy superintendent of police) rank officers while one inspector, two assistant inspectors and six constables would be part of the unit, he said.
       
"These units would look into trafficking of women and children in their respective regions", Mishra said adding that the provision of Rs One crore corpus fund per annuam was also made for rehabilitation of rescued women and children.

Other departments like Labour and Panchayati Raj would also help the police and the WCD department to ensure that women trafficking come to an end in the state, he said.

This apart, the department would also identify vunerability of areas from where women were being trafficked due to poverty, the policy maintatined adding that young women, prone to trafficking would be imparted training to make themselves economically sound.

While chief secretary will be heading the State Level Committee to check women trafficking, collectors of different districts were  asked to look after the rehabilitation of rescued women and children.
       
In another decision, the state cabinet also approved a proposal of reserving one-third seats for women in Class-I services also. Earlier, the 33 per cent reservation policy for women was meant for Class-II, Class-III and Class-IV services.
