One held for firing at police team in MP

Cases against four others have been registered in connection with firing on revenue and police officials in the state.

Police today arrested a person and registered cases against four others in connection with firing on revenue and police officials near Ajaygarh town in Panna district yesterday.

A person identified as Kuber Singh, an accused in a murder and dacoity case, was arrested from Sarvai Police Station area in Chhattarpur district on the border of Panna district in connection with the case, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Sunil Tiwari told reporters.

Besides, a case was also registered against two accused Gambhir Singh and Ram Singh and two other unidentified persons under sections 294 and 337 of the IPC at Ajaygarh Police Station.

The accused allegedly opened fire at the revenue and police team led by Sub Divisional Magistrate(SDM) and Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) yesterday that went to Chandapathi area where illegal sand mining was going on. The officials narrowly escaped in the incident.

Ajaygarh town’s SDM Nathuram Goud and SDOP, Jagannath Singh Markam, upon getting information about illegal sand mining at Chandipatha area, about 80 km from the district headquarter, had rushed to the spot.

When the police team reached there, the miners opened fire at them forcing them to retreat, but later police retaliated following which those engaged in illegal mining ran away on their trucks and tractors.

The team also found a bridge constructed over a river by the illegal miners for transporting sand to Uttar Pradesh which they later dismantled.

Illegal mining has assumed alarming proportions in Madhya Pradesh of late. On the Holi day, a young IPS officer, Narendra Kumar Singh was allegedly murdered when he was trying to stop a tractor carrying boulders illegally.

Meanwhile, Chattarpur Collector has ordered to close 15-17 sand mines near the banks of river Ken.

Police have also registered cases against four more persons in connection with firing on revenue and police officials near Ajaygarh town in Panna district.

After arresting Kuber Singh from Sarvai police station area in Chhattarpur district on the border of Panna district, police booked Gambhir Singh and Ram Singh and two other unidentified persons, Additional SP Sunil Tiwari told reporters.

Meanwhile, Chattarpur Collector has ordered closure of 17 sand mines near the banks of river Ken.
