On last day, Gujarat HC Chief Justice given warm farewell

At the farewell, Justice Mukhopadhya thanked all advocates, his staff and, in particular, the state govt for helping him do his job.

The Gujarat high court on Monday called for full court reference to felicitate and give a farewell to chief justice SJ Mukhopadhya who is to be sworn in as a judge of the Supreme Court on Tuesday. At the farewell, Justice Mukhopadhya thanked all advocates, his staff and, in particular, the state government for helping him do justice.

In his speech, Justice Mukhopadhya laid emphasis on the need to deliver speedy justice to citizens. He requested all judges to pass orders without any bias or prejudice. He also requested his colleagues on the bench to give a chance to junior lawyers to grow.

Former Supreme Court judge CK Thakkar, former acting chief justice of Gujarat high court RA Mehta and other judges were present in the court room along with several dignitaries.

Justice AL Dave inaugurated the farewell with a speech thanking Justice Mukhopadhya for his contributions as chief justice of Gujarat high court. He also wished him good luck on behalf of all members of the judiciary and the staff of high court. Justice Dave also spoke on Justice Mukhopadhya’s working style and his contribution to changing the working pattern of the Gujarat high court with a focus on speedy disposal of cases.

Advocate general Kamal Trivedi, in his speech, praised Justice Mukhopadhya for his humanitarian approach and his landmark judgments on environmental protection, income tax, agricultural land and civil issues.

President of Gujarat high court advocate’s association, Yatin Oza, expressed his admiration for the policy changes made by Justice Mukhopadhya in the administration of the Gujarat high court. The changes, he said, had benefited staff at all levels.
