The complainant, Vitthal Patel, said he had locked the house for last two days as he was out of station. The police have started the investigations.
"Both the rear and front doors of the house were broken, while the main lock of the cupboard has not been broken," the inspector of Odhav police station told DNA.
About the incident, the deputy commissioner of police, zone 5, Ajay Chaudhary told DNA that it is too early to reach any conclusion, but primary investigations suggest there may be something fishy in the complaint. "We have some doubts about the complainant, which we will also investigate," he said.
At the same time, police have not ruled out chances of involvement of some burglars' in the incident and are exploring all possible angles.
The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams, dog squad and a crime branch team have visited the spot and tried to gather clues about the incident.
The complainant said the stolen amount was kept in his cupboard and belonged to three builders of the city. Vitthal manages the cash flow of Jay Narayan Developers, Bhavani Developers and Siddhi Vinayak Developers, all based in the eastern part of the city. "The money stolen belonged to the three developers," the police said.
The police are expecting to solve the case soon, as they already claim to have got vital clues. They have so far recorded the statements of the complainant as well as his neighbours.
