To save time and manage work effectively, many civic body top officials are using BBM and Nimbuzz apps.
Gone are the days when officials of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) were found working with traditional methods.
With the development of the city in leaps and bounds, working style of the civic body officials have also transformed drastically.
They are now increasingly opting for high-end technology to make their work easier, and the result smarter and efficient disposal of work. Increasing workload of the municipal corporation is seen as reason behind this development.
Municipal commissioner Guruprasad Mohapatra is leading this tech revolution from the front with launch of a Facebook page in his name which helps people share their grievances/queries with him directly. Several of the deputy municipal commissioners (DyMC) too have moved to working digitally.
Many of the officials today prefer to work with new software and latest applications. Interestingly, the commissioner and the deputy municipal commissioner make use of BlackBerry messaging services for quicker and efficient work.
Speaking to DNA, Mohapatra described how he uses some of the softwares for quicker work. "I use BlackBerry Messaging to communicate urgent messages. Apart from this, I use e-mails to communicate with any particular department or official," says Mohapatra.
This clearly indicates how paperwork for official letters and notices has taken a backseat with e-mails and BlackBerry services taking their place.
"Since it is difficult to visit each and every location, I use 'Whatsapp' application on my computer tablet which makes it easy for me to send and receive images on my phone immediately," says DyMC MS Patel.
Another DyMC, Utpal Padia, echoed similar opinions. "Though I'm available on Whatsapp and make use of it frequently, I also prefer BlackBerry Messenger to convey any urgent work. I make use of Nimbuzz too to convey any important information to my officials. All correspondence pertaining to BRTS is through e-mails, thus saving lot of time and increasing efficiency," says Padia.
Padia is also the first DyMC to get a large LCD television to double up as his computer monitor.
