Normal monsoon in Gujarat, heavy rains expected

The analysis of the first phase of monsoon from June 1 to July 15 states that the monsoon has been largely normal in the state.

Gujarat and the city both have received more than average seasonal rainfall till July. Ahmedabad generally gets about 245 mm rainfall till July 15, and this time it has received 261 mm rainfall in the same period.

With this, about 10 sub-stations from the state which include Dwarka, Okha, Rajkot, Naliya, Bhavnagar, Bhuj, Ahmedabad, and Vadodara out of a total 20 stations have received rains above normal.

Indian Meteorological Department's data on the first phase of the monsoon notes that on the whole the state gets 179.8 mm rainfall till the first week of July and the actual rainfall has been recorded at 167.7 mm this season. On the whole, the state was only 7 per cent deficient - which is considered normal.  

For the country, the cumulative seasonal rainfall as a whole during this year's monsoon up to 15 July has so far been only 14 per cent below the Long Period Average. In the country, out of 36 meteorological sub-divisions, the rainfall has been excess over six, normal over 16 and deficient in 14 sub-divisions. 

The city got 25.5 mm rainfall on Friday, which took its seasonal total to 260 mm, which is 25.3 more than normal. The state weather office has forecast more spells in the next two days, ranging from moderate to heavy. While they will be moderate in the city, heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Diu, Daman, and Dadra Nagar Haveli during the next 36 hours.

The monsoon was active over Saurashtra and Kutch on Friday. With rainfall occurring at isolated places over Gujarat, the chief amounts of rainfall recorded in cm over Gujarat region is: Madhuban — 6, Jhalod, Kadana, Sami — 4 each, Dohad, Fatehpura, Khanpur, Dharampur, Pardi, Jambusar, Silvasa,Ukai — 2 each. One cm rainfall recorded at a number of places. In Saurashtra and Kutch, Kutiana —10, Mangrol, Ranavav — 8  each, Botad, Upleta — 6 each, Amreli, Junagadh, Anjar — 5 each,  Veraval, Jetpur, Rajula, Dhangandhra — 4 each, Lathi, Keshod, Palitana, Talaja, Jamnagar, Dhoraji, Gandhidham — 3 each. Two cm and less rainfall was recorded at several places.
