A student of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Gandhinagar will be participating in an international event at Singapore organised by the Harvard University.

Anjali Kharkia of the Jewellery Design department at NIFT Gandhinagar has been identified as a budding entrepreneur who will represent the country's budding entrepreneurs participating in the Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) 2010 to be held from August 20 to 24.

Sharing her excitement on getting selected for the prestigious event, Kharkia said, "It is an amazing opportunity. I look at it as a great chance to meet and share knowledge with the other delegates that will be coming to participate in the event."

Kharkia's selection to participate in the event as a delegate of budding entrepreneur has been made through various levels of screening including submission of biodata (resume), essays and telephonic interviews. For the essays, she was asked to write and submit an essay on the negotiating experiences of her life and another on why she wants to choose entrepreneurship.

Talking about her interest in entrepreneurship Kharkia said, "I run a boutique along with my mother. With this experience, I have a fair understanding about business. I feel that it is very important for designers to understand the system and function of a business venture along with the designing skills. This will enable the designers to become employers instead of just seeking for employment."

The HPAIR Asia Conference will be a 5-day academic programme with panel workshops presided over by Harvard graduate students. The conference will integrate the formats of both academic and business conferences.

The characteristic panel workshops of the original Academic Conference will be interspersed with seminars and case studies from the Business Conference.
