An attempt by a student of the National Institute of Design (NID) to steal money from her classmate’s bank account was caught a few hours after the incident and the student was nabbed from the institute premises on Friday.
The second-year student of the institute’s undergraduate programme stole her classmate’s ATM card and then withdrew Rs7,500 from the victim’s account using the same. Incidentally, the ATM card belonged to the victim’s father, who received an SMS on his mobile phone intimating him of the transaction as soon as the amount was withdrawn from the account.
No police complaint has been filed in connection with the matter.
