New WB governor MK Narayanan says there's consensus on NCTC

Former national security advisor MK Narayanan, who was today sworn in as the West Bengal governor, ruled out any differences with the Centre on the setting up of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC).

"All of us agreed to the NCTC," Narayanan told reporters after taking oath at the Raj Bhavan here.

"I think there is a lot of misconception. The matter of discussion was about what should be the exact role of the NCTC. It would be a combined wisdom of everybody," Narayanan said.

Asked how he could tackle the two major problems in the state - Maoist threat and political violence, Narayanan said, "Let me settle down first. I will talk to the chief minister. Let us see what can be done. With my years of experience, I am sure I would be able to help the administration solve the problem."

Speaking on his new assignment, the former intelligence chief said, "I am a civil servant. So it came as a surprise to me. It is a high point in my career. I am confident of justifying my assignment by the president and the prime minister".
