The tourist coach of the Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service will live up to the image of the city as a mega city. The AMTS not only plans to provide better and more comfortable travel experience but also a multilingual guide for informing tourists about historic, cultural, architectural facts of the city.

The transport arm of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) plans to ply two Volvo buses on the tourist coach route. Moreover, there will be an extension of route to cover more important places in the city. At present, the tourist coach covers only a few places such as Bhadra Fort, Hathisingh Jain Temples, Sabarmati Ashram and Kankaria to mention a few. "We want to include more places such as Science City and some of the museums," said Amit Shah, chairman of AMTS.

Moreover, the travel timings will also get extended with the route.

At present, the tourist coach takes around four hours for a trip, which will be extended to eight hours. There will also be a change in the fare which is likely to get doubled. The AMTS charges Rs60 which will now go up to Rs150.

The AMTS will also deploy a multilingual guide to provide information about city's rich cultural heritage to help the tourist from European countries. The AMTS will prepare literature showcasing various tourist spots in the city which will be kept at all the hotels to attract tourists. "We will try to get sponsorship to reduce financial burden," said Shah.
