The hospital has been equipped with a new ophthalmology department replete with state-of-the-art equipment.
Policemen visiting Nagpada police hospital from Wednesday onwards will be in for a pleasant surprise. The hospital has been equipped with a new ophthalmology department replete with state-of-the-art equipment, which from December 3 will be manned by a team of expert doctors from the Adityajyot Eye Hospital, Wadala.
“It is a fact that policemen are under a lot of stress all the time, have erratic working hours and diet habits, all of which are major causes of diabetes. A lot of them are susceptible to diabetic retinopathy and are unaware of it,” said Dr S Natarajan, MD, Adityajyot Eye Hospital.
The prevalence of diabetes is 12 to 14% in the urban population and of these more than 20% suffer from diabetic retinopathy, he added.
The opthalmology department, with equipment worth over Rs5 lakh, will offer various forms of eye check-up.
